This positive representation of children has a modified meaning in modern days. It has been interpreted to be something that an individual says when a small child says something that is surprising and not expected because it shows a grown up’s wisdom and understanding of the particular situation (Free).
Quentin refers to Benjy when he uses this quote. Although Benjy is already grown up and is not a “babe” anymore, Quentin still thinks of him as a child because of his mental retardation. Benjy has a mentality of a three-year-old, making association to “babe” appropriate. We can also confirm that the subject of thought is Benjy through the word “bellowing”. Benjy bellows when he gets upset, when Caddy comes home after “sexual activities”. Benjy senses this before everyone else, and nobody tells this to him in advance. The quote is appropriate because Benjy, being young, innocent and inexperience, can be so wise as to be able to tell that Caddy has lost her virginity.

anyway. i got my prom dress. that's exciting. it's new seeamist.. the color.. it's pretty cute.. i think.. elegant/pretty type. what else? i got into like...6 colleges. but i'm going to iowa. that's settled for sure. can't afford other schools although i REALLY wanna go to USC> too bad. i'm still going to LA though. that's the good thing. can't wait to get out of school for one day. one day's better than none. yea..!! i'm counting down... 16 more days i'll be in LA for 3. and that all the crappy AP testing that's gonna take over my life from then on... man. i'm taking5 of them and it freaking cost me $415. CRAZY> my paycheck money... all GONE.. i only have like 75 bucks left in my account. until i get my next check.
ya. and i'm definitely quitting my job tomorrow. i went to chik-fil-a today and the operator told me i'm gonna get paid more than what i get now. even though i got a raise like.... 1 week ago.. i still don't make enough money.. i NEED more money... ya.. i'm money minded... =P
let's see.. yea... i have to read this STUPID and BORING book that i A BSOLUTELY LOATHE!!!! bah. so complicated. well. this part i'm reading's ok though. but the beginning two parts.. i have NO idea what it's talking aboiut.... talking about not understnading stuff.. i hv no idea what's going on in math... what divergent or convergent... it's either one or the other.. and i always have to guess wrong.. what partial sums what???/ yea...
and biology.. man. we have to do this presentation that's due friday and i haven't even started. i have a vague idea what i'm going to do though. so i guess that's good.
and i have a C in english..>>!!!!!!
